Departure from Marrakech in the direction of Zagora in the south of Morocco. We take the road crossing the High Atlas via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass. The city of Ouarzazate, famous for its authentic Kasbahs, welcomes us on the way down the mountain.
We continue the road via the Tizi-n-Tifintit pass to Agdz, a small town in southern Morocco on the old caravan route. Admire the Berber carpets of Taliouine offered by traders on the main avenue. We go deep into the desert of Morocco where authentic fortified villages and a superb palm grove lead us to the oisis of Zagora.
At the gates of the great Moroccan desert, Zagora is rich in history and culture as shown by the numerous rock engravings in its region. A sign indicating the famous road to Timbuktu tells the story of the expeditions that made Morocco prosper.
We continue towards M’Hamid, a locality just before the ocean of the Chegaga dunes. The camels are there to offer you various ballads in the desert. The walk continues through erg and reg. Moments of relaxation that give you the impression of being totally disconnected from the stress of everyday life.
In the shade of the tamarisk trees, possibility to have a meal while enjoying the enchanting scenery of the Moroccan desert. We then go to the Erg Chegaga, a vast expanse of sand dunes that cover the infinite space of the desert. At the end of the day, admire the sublime sunset which offers a memorable picture.
In the evening, you spend the night in a bivouac installed around the fire in front of the dunes of Chegaga. On the program, good Saharan tea and meal in a lively atmosphere around the fire for a memorable evening in the desert of Morocco.
Return to Marrakech. Possibility of making breaks visits: the nomadic house-museum in Oulad driss, kasbahs towards Zagora, potteries… About 18 km from Zagor, you can visit the village of Tamegrout famous for its Koranic library containing precious mabuscrits. Also worth seeing is the pottery factory which produces elegant handicrafts whose specific color is green.
